Yea, Jovanović is most common. Second is Petrović and third is Nikolić.

One of the most interesting facts to me about Serbian names and surnames is existence of names Brajan and Rajan among Serbs in the past. Brajan is equivalent with same pronunciation of Irish Brian, and Rajan of Irish Ryan.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brajan

Brajan, sin Rahče (Brajan, son of Rahča) / Rajan, sin Branivoja (Rajan, son of Branivoj) from the census of region which was under the rule of Branković family (Kosovo) in 1455.

Among Serbs Novaković is common surname. Novak exist but it's rare. Same goes for Kovačević and Kovač.

Nowak is most common surname of Lusatian Serbs (Sorbs).

True for Bulgaria. Dimitrov and Georgiev aren't far behind.

It probably isn't linked to Russians or Ruthenians, as it is also very popular in Romania.
Moldova - Rusu (21k) + Rus (67) = 21k ; 2.68 million people / 21k = 1 in 129 people, though before the revised population figure for 2019, the statistical bureau was working with the figure of 3.5m that they were quoting since 2004, so realistically it's 1 in 166.
    Romania - Rusu (73k) + Rus (36k) = 109k; 19.523 million people / 109k = 1 in 179 people who bear this surname Rusu or Rus
