The ratio of blondes is higher in Germans, but not by much.
Germans are much blonder than France. Studies that directly compare the two countries on athletes (with lighting accounted for) clearly show that. Two cherry picked pictures with questionable lighting don't disprove that. The map is accurate for children, but it does have a pretty wide definition of blonde probably.

Yes I know, clock is ticking, birthrates especially. Even Australia is going that way too.

Huge survey indeed. It can be easliy compiled with data obtained at the same time in Belgium and all of Austria, including Galicia. Austrian data (millions of observations) is available online AFAIR. Additionally, it has been broken down by nationality in each school region.

And the opposite tendency for light eyes.

Not to mention that the areas east of the Oder were only linguistically Germanized.

Good observation. From this map you can figure out that as a whole Germany is darker-eyed than Poland.

I really don't like people trying to lightwash Germans, and Supercomputer appears to be a Germanophile.

Interesting in this map is a North-South cline regardless of language spoken. Polish areas in Eastern Germany were equally light eyed and light haired... Proto-Keltic areas (Alsace/Lorraine, Palatinate, Bavaria), however, were closer to Northern French. If you've ever been to Alsace you will notice that natives (those with German surnames) look absolutely identical to ethnic French across the Vosges. Alpine dominates followed by Keltic Nordic...

    Is it so surprising?
It has been common knowledge among anthropologists at least for 100y.

Now there are genetic studies with several genes which are responsible for these features.

This map is completely false. It shows Russians blonder than Swedes and Bulgarians blonder than South Germans
