Out of the Polish gene pool extraordinary individuals hardly emerge. I mean, it's been 30 years and Poland is still piss-poor, despite all the EU money and goodwill. There is no excuse. Also keep in mind that Polish men are submissive and not good looking, that hinders them further in the West.

Oh, we are not. But perhaps more importantly, go back in time to year 1913, and ask someone to predict how Poland would like 100 years later - in 2013.

I wonder what would they respond?

How would people in 1913 predict the future and borders of Poland 100 years later, vs. how we really are? It shows that last century was a Great Success.

    Poles seem quite reserved.

You know, I think that because Poland is not classified as "Western Europe," that's the answer you're looking for, I think. I understand your question. But even Communism's effect on a person's sense of self is something I don't consider in my answer to your question. It has nothing to do with any "Slavic defect."

Just like with my people, Polish have been occupied by foreign powers for centuries in recent history. It altered the Polish psyche accordingly. Poles however have Rethelism to rekindle their former prestige.

In a certain aspect Poles also are fairly reserved as a result and more down-to-earth when it comes to mind-numbing nationalism.
