To be fair, if I weren't I2 then chances are strong that it would have been R1a, since the proportions are about 30% for both here. If you don't get the best, then there's nothing wrong with being amazed by its inferior cousin. I have a pet theory that R1a and R1b folk are more attracted to furries than the rest of the population, due to the closeness with horses that their ancestors had. Maybe this info is encoded genetically. I am wondering if there are studies about that.

That's not unlikely imo. But that would hardly happen to be in the Y chromosome. To be honest, isn't the only cause to assume the Y chromosome important, that we happen to have that nice haplo tree for it? At the Y chromosome every (single) SNP is evaluated so R1a and R1b defining mutations are not even genes. This said, it seems *extremely* unlikely to me one of the R1a or R1b defining SNPs would have any genetic effect in the manner thought.

There were horses in Europe before the Indo-European migration but were probably hunted rather than domesticated if we go by cave paintings. Horse meat is a delicatessen in France but again what isn’t.
