Why do people insist that Germans are blonde haired and blue eyed?

Someone told me I would be "atypical" in Germany because of my naturally dark hair. Majority of Germans may have blue eyes, but not blonde hair. Most Germans have medium or light brown to dark brown hair. There is an area of Germany called the "Black Forest" where the darkest haired Germans live. A theory is that they may have once mingled with Spaniards with Berid phenotype. This is largely known as the "Black Dutch" theory similar to the "Dark Irish". I believe there may be some truth to that. How could you explain why some Germans have such dark hair, but rather fair skin, and the features are not typical of the Hallstat "Hitler's ideal" Germans.


Theories on the Black Dutch

One of the most accepted is that it is not "Dutch" as in those of Dutch descent, but Deutsche as in of German descent. A similar name is the Pennsylvania Dutch which are actually of German descent. The theory is that the Black Dutch are descended from the Germans that live in the Black Forest. This area of Germany was at one time much larger than it is now and the inhabitants are much darker than Germans from elsewhere in the country.

Depends on the regions.....

Bavarians and other South Germans have darker hair and dark eyes. Northern Germans on the other hand look Danish or Scandanavian.

That's not true. Germans are not Scandinavian influenced in the way that Lithuanians are.

Northern Germans to Danes, would be the way to think about it. And the distance is small there. I do agree southerners are more “sourhern” due to that Gallo-Roman stock. Where did you get the idea with the Spanish in particular?

Wrong, the difference between north and south is very minimal, to be honest i didn't notice it in the real life. Now in 2021 these 100 years old hair and eye maps makes no sense, there were many internal migration between the world wars and after the WW2, and after the fall of communism many north (eastern) german moved to the richer areas, and basically South Germany is richer than the northern regions. Trust me you will see same peoples in the north and south.

But of course if you spent too much time in TA you will think south germans are meds, northernes are pure blonde blue eyed, finns are blonde mongoloids, balkanites looks turkish, south europeans are arabic/negroid and other bullshit.

I'd think the Nazi ideal led to the idea.

But I think there is some truth in that Germany is a pretty blonde country. I don't care so much to have population statistics, but based anecdotally I've seen a lot of them - idk if they were north, central or southern germans. I do know a southern German with black hair though... also has greenish eyes. I'd assume northern Germans would have some Scandinavian influence so having lighter hair isn't very surprising, while southern germans darker. Could be wrong on this though.
