Today's rap is definitely not. But I remind you Black rappers of 90's and 00's. They made masterpieces. Actually no need to be that much conservative, Jazz, Blues etc were not accepted by community at the time.

I think mostly rappers are not musicians.

There are some exceptions with some rappers that can play musical instruments , but would be very few that are accomplished musicians.

Rap was probably an alternative for people who didnt play any instrument but wanted to express themselves in an artistic way .
I agree that when Rap first started it was quite original and creative , some Rap is cool but also many cases where it just uses samples/ music from other artists as backtracks to rap over.
Im suprised it ever became as popular as it has .

People that played Jazz/Blues were for the most part musicians.
They played musical instruments , and especially in Jazz there was some very accomplished musicians.

I agree with you, our thoughts are parallel. As I told before early rap can be considered music not today's.

I was really surprised at the fucking results of this poll.

Of course it is music.
My favourite style might be celtic/traditional, I am a rap fan though, why shouldn't I be? You just have to know where to look, like it is in every style.
