Shitty film with no plot which seem to take pleasure to show ugly scenes. Not to mention lies it presents (Catholic nuns present in Gradiška, never happened).
I noticed Serbs have fetish for sex and violence (both present in the film), an interesting phenomenom.

    3/10

I got bored after first 45 minutes.

I knew that already but to see it from first hand, it's hard.

I dont see this movie as anti-croatian movie, the only way to understand each others is to admit faults and crimes of psychopaths who were part of your own nation, and Ustashes and their doings in Jasenovac were not Croats, those were PSYCHOPATHS.

Same as (just an example) Arkan was Psychopath in 90s from serbian side, NOTHING can justify such things.

I wouldn't be true Croatian patriot if I would ever say that Ustashes were not killing Serbs in Jasenovac, those killings were... beyond inhumane, it was true form of; EVIL.

And nothin like that can ever be allowed to happened, and it won't, EVER again.

I had to admit it was hard to watch this movie to me, I had teary eyes durin many scenes of movie, not only teary eyes, but teary eyes mixed with ANGER..., anger that somethin like that could even happened, anger that SOMEONE ACTUALLY CAN DEFEND THOSE SCUMS in the name of who knows what twisted sense of "patriotism".

True patriots can only protect his and other nations from that EVIL ever happening again.
Except that Arkan actually saved many Serbs from death in direct battles. How exactly Ustashe from Jasenovac saved Croats? It is not comparable.

I don't deny Serbian crimes in the last war, just for the record.

Ugly scenes were reality in Jasenovac and what is shown in movie is a light version.

Those psychopatic monsters, Ustashe, were organising contests in slaughtering in camp. This is a testimony
by psychiatrist Dr. Nedo Zec, who was an inmate at Jasenovac and who had a talk with one Ustasha
who got crazy as consequence of what he was doing.

    Here is the quote:

"Below is the story from the perspective of another of the contestants, Mile Friganović:

“Franciscan Pero Brzica, Ante Zrinusic, Sipka and I waged a bet on who would slaughter more prisoners that night. The killing started and already after an hour I slaughtered much more than they did. It seemed to me that I was in seventh heaven. I had never felt such bliss in my life. And already after a few hours I slaughtered 1,100 people, while the others only managed to kill 300 to 400 each. And then, when I was experiencing the greatest ecstasy I noticed an elderly peasant standing and peacefully and calmly watching me slaughter my victims and them dying in the greatest pain. That look of his shook me: in the midst of the greatest ecstasy I suddenly froze and for some time couldn't make a single move. And then I walked up to him and found out that he was some Vukasin [Mandrapa] from the village of Klepci near Capljina whose whole family had been killed, and who was sent to Jasenovac after having worked in the forests. He spoke this with incomprehensible peace which affected me more than the terrible cries around us. All at once I felt the wish to disrupt his peace with the most brutal torturing and, through his suffering, to restore my ecstasy and continue to enjoy the inflicting of pain.

“I singled him out and sat him down on a log. I ordered him to cry out: ‘Long live Poglavnik [Fuehrer] Pavelić!’, or I would cut his ear off. Vukasin was silent. I ripped his ear off. He didn't say a word. I told him once again to cry out ‘Long live Pavelić!’ or I would tear off the other ear too. I tore off the other ear. ‘Yell: “Long live Pavelić!”, or I'll tear off your nose.’ And when I ordered him for the fourth time to yell ‘Long live Pavelić!’ and threatened to take his heart out with a knife, he looked at me, that is, somehow through me and over me into uncertainty and slowly said: ‘Do your job, child.’ [Radi ti, dijete, svoj posao.] After that, these words of his totally bewildered me. I froze, plucked out his eyes, tore out his heart, cut his throat from ear to ear and threw him into the pit. But then something broke within me and I could no longer kill that night.

“Franciscan Pero Brzica won the bet because he had slaughtered 1,360 prisoners and I paid the bet without a word.” (Qtd. in The Role of the Vatican in the Breakup of the Yugoslav State, by Dr. Milan Bulajić, Belgrade, 1994: 156-157; from a Jan., 1943, interview with Friganović by psychiatrist Dr. Nedo Zec, who was also an inmate at Jasenovac.)".

Communist era "testimonies" are pretty irrelevant and likely lots of the pure fantasy. My grandpa, unlike yours, spent few months in Jasenovac as prisoner, and except public executions all "ugly scenes" happened during the night which other prisoners did not see. Cyclon B is another fantasy from communist era, just like old man saying "do your job son" who was never proved to exist.

    It's another Servian propaganda movie.

Ofcourse, as you are pretty tastless nation those films look like trash too and they lack any subtliety. Any great holocaust movie doesn't show ugly scenes directly because it isn't necessary neither does Quo Vadis Aida shows any of that.

Dara of Jasenovac classifies as torture porn, not suprising coming from nation known for morbid films like Serbian Film and Life and death of Porn Gang.

    Summa summarum:

While Dara watches the blood-splatter, Maks’ half-sister Nada (Alisa Radaković) gets so sexually excited by the carnage that she and hubby Dinko Šakić (Petar Durdivić) get it on in a car, her climax synched with Ante’s stabbings. Subtlety is not the director’s forte.

Why you defend Ustashe and especially those from Jasenovac? Did they save Croatian people somehow?

I don't defend them, my grandpa was so afraid of them he rarely wanted to speak about his experiences there.
Film is manipulative, but you know that already, and plainly disgusting.

Should have spent more time to develop characters and backstory that have blood split across the silver screen.
I already mentioned lies about nuns, one of most offensive things in the movie.

Jewish critics didn't like you showed Germans as gentle souls compared to demonic Ustaše either.

Maybe because experience was worse then a movie?

Some things in movie are fiction as this is a movie not a documentary. But those fictions are created by testimonials of survived and cumulated in one caracter or an event.

About nuns - I know testimonials of people who were children back then and some nuns were not different of those Ustasha.

There were no nuns in Gradiška, it's a pure fantasy with aim to shit on Catholic church (similar with Stepinac pic in the walls there, fuj)
Grandpa said only the following: murders with cold weapons were happening during night, which other prisoners did not see but could only hear and they knew what was happening. That's all.

Miroslav Filipović (5 June 1915 – 1946), also known as Tomislav Filipović and Tomislav Filipović-Majstorović, was a Bosnian Croat Franciscan friar and Ustashe military chaplain who participated in atrocities during World War II in Yugoslavia.

Statements by two eyewitnesses and a senior German general say that on 7 February 1942, Filipović accompanied elements of his battalion in an operation aimed at wiping out Serbs in the settlement of Drakulić, on the northern outskirts of Banja Luka, and in two neighbouring villages, Motike and Šargovac. A few Serbs survived, but overwhelmingly the operation achieved its objective; more than 2,300 Serb civilians – men, women and children – were killed, usually with axes or pick-axes.

Another particularly vicious killing was described by the former Jewish prisoner, Egon Berger, in his book, "44 months in Jasenovac":

"The priestly face of Fra Majstorovic, all made-up and powdered, dressed in an elegant suit and green hunter's hat, watched with delight the victims. He approached the children, even stroked their heads. The company was joined Ljubo Milos and Ivica Matkovic. Fra Majstorovic told the mothers there will now be a baptism for their children. They took the children from the mothers, the child whom Father Majstorovic was carrying, in his child's innocence caressed the painted face of his killer. The mothers, distraught, perceived the situation. They offered their lives for mercy for the children. Two children were placed on the ground, while the third was thrown like a ball into the air, and Fr Majstorovic , holding a dagger upwards, missed three times, while the fourth time with a joke and a laugh, a child was impaled on the dagger. Mothers began throwing themselves on the ground, pulling their hair, and began to shout terribly. Ustasha guards of the 14th Osijek Company took them away and killed them. When all three children were so brutally killed, these three two-legged beasts exchanged money, because they seem to have a bet on who would the first to stick a dagger in a child."
