What? No, the core belief of western liberals is that there is some nasty oppression imposed on the minorities in the western world, be it other races, gays or whatever. They don't idealize their societies as is implied in the original post, they do the polar opposite - demonizing the mainstream. Of course that's completely ridiculous, but that's another matter.

Anyhow, did not notice the trends mentioned in my country. Liberals here are very critical of the west aswell as the east. White guilt and all the usual stuff - six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Eastern European liberals are the Eastern Europeans who were deluded by post-communist western promises. In the last two centuries the British and Americans have done a very good job in selling liberalism - a strictly British invention - as the only possible response to socialism and the only way towards economic and social stability - the turning point was their success in boycotting Imperial Germany in the two wars, who acted as the alternative to the democratic bullshit in Western Europe.

There seems to be two kinds of liberalism the classical liberalism of John Locke and the degenerated Jewish form of social liberalism from America even though I am aware John Maynard Keynes was English.
