If its pure, dark brown then the 0.5% is probably correct. Those eyes are rare in Irish people. Brown eyes are common enough of course.

The Harvard study said the 0,5% includes light brown, but there are also categories "very pronouncedly dark" and "pronouncedly dark". If we include these two there are around 6% brown or almost brown eyes in Ireland. If we include hazel it goes up to 12%

It's not that controversial. Pure brown eyes are indeed not common in Ireland. I have relatives with very blue eyes but most have that sort of mixed light colour that look greenish/grey/blue. Just looking at the Corr's family Andrea is the only one with brown eyes and her eyes are a light brown.

This colour is reasonably common in the Irish. Of course blue eyes are numerous as well.

    This is Andrea.

Aisling Bea is another very good example. I would say she has the most common eye colour in the Irish.

Steve Mangan whose parents are from Co Mayo is another example of brown eyes in the Irish.

Sarah Greene from Cork is another.

My absolute favourite comedian is Dylan Moran. I'm posting him here because I always thought of him as brown eyed but he is more dark mixed. Anyway I'd ask anyone to post a full Irishman with fully brown eyes here? They are hard to find.

A bit OT but it is so frustrating searching for images on google these days. Images either don't post or they are too small. Not sure what the objective is because you can still copy and save the image and post anyway.

Posting one of the darkest eyed Irishmen I could think of Colin Farrell.

I find that all these studies and analysis turn out very useful and pragmatic for a society or any community.

They have their "niche" appeal especially now with the mass migrations of very diverse people into otherwise quite isolated communities. Every corner of Ireland now has people from every continent on earth. I'm a fully ethnically Irish person in Oceania. The world is changing.

None of these are brown eyes. Zoom in and you'll see.

True brown eyes are rare in native Irish people. What I posted are considered brown eyes in Irish people but my point was that it is difficult to find truly brown eyes which backs up the studies that brown eyes are low. That's why I asked people to post Irish people with brown eyes.

Even ambiguous Irish like Robert Sheehan don't have brown eyes.

Another supposedly exotic Irishman Aidan Turner.

So going forward in this thread post actual Irishmen with brown eyes so we can discern if they have brown or mixed dark eyes. Not as easy as it sounds.

Those are no truly brown eyes. They are mixed eyes.
