Turkey's strength lies in the fact that the country is surrounding by weaker, defragmented or smaller countries which Turkey is provoking. So while Turkey is the largest country in the region, in reality smaller countries in the Mediterranean, like Spain, Italy and France are stronger than Turkey. They simply are not boosting their power in the same way Erdogan does.
