One issue with many very light skinned people of mixed origin is if you see them without knowing their background, you assume they were white. But once you find out that they are mixed, you can't "unsee" some faint signs of admixture after that. For instance, when I first saw Rashida Jones, I assumed she was white. Then when I realized saw her name and found out she is Quincy Jones' daughter, then its hard not to see that she is mixed - yet very light-skinned.
I am sure I thought the same of Keanu Reeves and Eddie Van Halen at one point (though Alex Van Halen looks more exotic). In the 1980s, I thought they were just two typical "white dudes from California" (though they are not that at all).
