Then the fact you find Americans generally easier to understand is essentially a moot point.

I get you but Britain seems to have some really strange local accents where it wouldn't surprise me at all if even Brits have trouble understanding.

my listening and my reading are totally in different levels, I can read what they write or type but I cannot understand what they say. I believe I've created my own pronounce for the words I am typing that when I hear these same words as sounds for the first time it sounds totally different

Usually, I've realised, it depends on the speaker.

We're accostumed --at least I-- to listen to American English, through their movies, documentaries, speeches, etc.-- but sometimes American English is quite hard to understand --especially that one from some areas from the south.

On the other hand, the standard English pronunciation is quite understandable as well. Some other kind of English are harder.

I learned English firstly from an Aussie, so both British and American were harder to me at first. Before going to Norway for erasmus, i needed to improve my accent so i made listening sessions of British as people told me that Americans speak very fastly and its hard to understand. Deep into British, i didnt really like guttural stops and pronunciations in general sounded poor to me. I stopped studying in British and switched to American. Now after quite some time i understand American very well (even songs) and British sounds me a continental accent like Dutch. I still use British in writing but because of i live in Europe region and this region learns English from Brits.

Long story short, IMO both are equal level to understand and it depends on which one you hear more.

I hated the fact they teach us British English with the gay pronunciation, thank god 50,game and rick ross teached me more than school ever did. I used to hate British English, now I love chav English and the way the grime ppl talk, but hate upper class english.

Bottom line, I understand American English better, but im not good in English generally having verbal conversation.
