I don't remember if this was a thread I responded to before, but I'll go at it.

Well, until the 9th grade I went to school in Miami, it was mostly Latinos of various races (even a girl of fully Korean descent from Argentina....was really jarring hearing that accent with her face ). I then spent the rest of high school in Boston (well....Brookline) and that was a mixture of pretty much everything. Also, if you are curious, I moved to Spain a few months after my graduation in 2018 or whatever.

South Asians: Sí

MENA: Sí

Mixed-race Latin Americans: Sí

The only oddity in my prom was an indomestiza Peruvian girl, but only slightly, as her maternal tongue was still Spanish instead of Quechua/Aymara, so it was all good.

Nope. If you wanted to see one during the 80's and 90's you actually had to go to their ghetto near the Colonial Zone, or if in the campos, go to their bateys, that was it.

Nope, just Europeans. The most exotic was a Bosnian refugee who entered my class in the last year of primary school because the war in Yugoslavia had started a year before.

In my time it was pretty rare to find a Haitian at a private school. It was because of the fact that they were at the bottom of the society. In the DR only the very poor go to public school while everyone else go to private schools. Mind you that I lived in a city that is the most haitianized of the whole country (many people there are 3rd and even 4rd generation Haitian-Dominicans because of the sugarcane industry).

Haitians working in the construction was VERY common in the 90s btw. At least in the city I grew up. It was in the 80s that it was rarer IMO. It also depended on what part of the country. Now even in the very small rural towns you will find them. People don't believe us when we say they are taking the country little by little.

You can find Haitians at the universities now (that's a good thing and I actually love it). Also some better off Haitians live in Santo Domingo. They are minorities though.
