Some Turks stated here that they dislike some attitudes of those Turks who live in Germany and you became against us, who live in Turkey all of a sudden. It was also right of him to not let him getting bullied. It seems to me by the way he talks he is from Southern Germany, where Gymnasiums (German school for higher education) are exclusively German most of the time. He probably was the "odd Turk" on that school and yes "Turk" has a negative connotation in those circles, he picked up on that correctly.

But the same thing can be said for Northern/Western Germany where you can easily get bullied for being the only German in class, he could've mentioned this too.
