Who is more Western looking, Poles or Russians?

It's not even close. Only some people around Sankt Petersburg and Moscow look more Western or Westernized, but the rest are clearly more Eastern than all other Eastern Europeans (going by the Cold War definition of Eastern Europe).

Poles have a bit more Germanic admix so I would say Poles.
Still the difference is probably not big since Poles basically overlap with Central and Southern Russians genetically.
Northern Russians has much higher Finno-Ugric admixture.

Yeah. Matthew Raphael Johnson said that there was a Russian view that there are only two fundamental cardinal directions. East and north form one direction, where the east has similar essence as the north, and west and south form another direction, where the west has similar essence as the south. It is very applicable to the racial landscape of Europe.

Athletes are not necessarily representative for the whole population. Certain types are probably more common among athletes. Long, narrow headed types are overrepresented and round headed types are underrepresented among athletes, at least in my experience. It can depend on the sport too.

In my opinion Eastern\Western looks are more about grooming, style, facial expressions etc than about actual phenotypes. As general worldwide "western" style became popular in Russia among younger generations it comes of no surpise that russians started to look more western. Just compare two photos of russian comedian in everyday life and him acting as a provincial journalist.
