Yes they are Tajik pamiris . Khorog is in the gorno bakdakhsan province of tajkistan which is directly adjacent to Afghanistan's badakshan province . These folks are closer to Alot of afghans than tajikistani tajiks , the latter having quite a few turkic admixture . Not unusual for them lacking turanid if you have a quick look at their g25 .

That's v interesting, always thought of Tajiks as being the more European looking group, though having searched groups from Dushanbe the Turanid component is very common, do you think Carleton Coon was referring to the Pamiri people when he mentioned the high proportions of Alpine type in Tajikistan?

Tajik pamiris are more the "real " tajiks and descendants of native local populations such as bactrians , Sogdians , wakhis etc . The same applies for afghan tajiks from badakshan , kapisa , parwan , panjsher etc etc

Yeah tajikistani tajiks are much more mixed ( not all ) , Alot of Persianised Uzbeks and Kyrgyz influences . Put it this way, if you want to see what ancient Eastern iranics look like / were , look at pamiris , wakhis , afghan tajiks and pashtuns as well as nuristanis .

Yeah the woman with the reddish blonde hair behind the short woman with the purple scarf looks v Russian, apparently Tajikistan still has strong links with Moscow, when researching these pictures a lot of the locals there have spent time living in Russia.
