The chicken or the egg? Many people associate obesity with lack of intelligence. But assuming that obese people are simply lazy, laziness would be a character flaw, independent of overall IQ. I think that it is possible for intelligent people to become obese due to numerous factors such as addictions, depression, lifestyle changes, and physical injury. However, obese people do seem to be less intelligent overall, but it also depends on if they developed obesity because of lack of intelligence, or if their obesity is affecting their IQ.
For example these people seem less intelligent:
However Albert Einstein was fat and intelligent people can be fat , and unintelligent people can be slim. So in this case, I do not believe correlation equals causation, because of course, it never does.
So the question is, are obese people less intelligent because they cannot successfully apply lifestyle changes necessary to become thin? Then if that is the case, most people are not very bright, because studies show that 98% of people who lose weight regain the weight within 5 years. If someone is ignorant about nutrition then that is another story. If they don't have the knowledge to apply a lifestyle change, that is ignorance, not intelligence.Therefor, my conclusion is that obesity , over time, destroys brain cells, not the other way around.
