What is wrong with Gun Smoke?

Sometimes one gets tired of the serious stuff, so How about a little diversion: the object of this game is what is wrong with Gun Smoke? You remember "Gun Smoke" the TV program that was on the air for twenty years. It was good entertainment but poor history.

The first question is why can‘t Matt’s part-time deputy ever be a marshal or even perhaps a full-time deputy. This is a very easy question for anyone who has any knowledge of the show and law enforcement and the legal system. Consider the social conditions of the country at the time. Perhaps Festus could get a waiver that would allow him to be a full-time deputy, but there is something that disqualifies him from ever being a U.S. Marshal; what is it.

I dont know I watched it a few times but never regularly. It was alright though. I binged watch wyat earp a bit. Was a decent show. I need to watch it again.

Matt is a Marshal not a sheriff or constable, there is no such thing as a deputy marshal. Also neither Chester or Festus are deputies at all, they are simply friends of Matt. Also Chester is lame, his leg is messed up; he can't physically keep up with Matt who is no athlete himself (dude was super tall and injured during WW2 in Italy). If I remember correctly Chester was injured during the Civil War, I don't think either fought for the confederacy. I know Matt was a Yankee. Good Western, only show that could recycle an actor 20 times and keep things fresh.

To add to that, Chester is pretty much a pacifist, he rarely uses violence, I can only remember a few episodes where he was aggressive and he always had a shotgun, he never even carried a pistol.

Well, I said it was an easy question and the answer is: A Marshall or A Sheriff then the same as now was an administrative position; they usually had deputies that did the fieldwork. They mostly did paperwork. Festus can't be a marshal because he can't read and write.

If progs remade Gunsmoke Tyler Perry would be Matt and Chris Rock would be Chester, butt buddies against villanous Whites. Only non- Black in the cast would be Anthony Fauci as Doc, now endearingly referred to as Vydee = vitamin D.
