They did have slaves in the Northern states. They had them in New England, New York, etc. It isn't true that only the South had slaves. Most Southerners were not slave owners. The South also had a lot of freed Negroes .

Musically, the US would still have country music and it's many forms which is a great export to many parts of the world. The blacks only had hip hop which is not very appealing.

This is stupid and simplistic. Slavery did not exist in all the states, nor cotton fields were the only field of work and plus you can bet what you want that without slavery America would have been great equally.

Why the obsession with contribution? Are you expecting them to basicaly run the country and being sucessful at every field like Whites, since they are just 12% of the population and they are stigmatized since the 17th century?

Ironicaly Barack Obama was a mulatto born to a Black American man and a European woman, but it's Black American was not African American since his father was not American but Kenyan and not descended from Black Slaves. That should mean something.

Unlikely, in the south of the US they still needed of labor. But in the US a slave was costing a lot, there was a slave rental, obviously it was easier to pay wages than money for slave traders (who were black in Africa).

Some slaveowners from the south thought they would run out of labor (European immigrants were independent farmers, that was the reason for immigration) another fear was a revolt similar to that of Haiti.

They already had a pecking order of who they thought was better or not. Irish were for a time descriminated or and even used as indentured servants.
