I know that it's mostly in jest, but I also know that some of it isn't. I have no dog in that fight since I'm a British Isles mutt, and I'm not gonna chase my tail like some rabid sectarian Pit Bull until I start to sound like Old Yeller and they decide to put me to sleep (enough canine barking for one post). Sorry about that. I do these stream of consciousness posts where I type anything that comes to mind in an instantaneous way.

That's the genetic Rosetta Stone that's constantly overlooked. There's a divide between the Eastern English and the Western English that's a bit like the divide between Anglo-Saxons and Britons, which explains why some Americans are shocked when they find out that they're more British than the English. It's not some magical, mystical mystery. They score closer to the Irish (even though they have many English forebears) because they're in the same ancient tribes.

Meh, can't say I've seen those, and don't really care; there are always stupid people front and centre on the internet. Whenever my mum has gone to Ireland she's been treated wonderfully, same for me.
And my English mother gets 0% English on MH
It's a tragedy that company is so popular for DNA testing, and the most popular one in continental Europe I believe. It's verging on a scam.

It's not really Eastern English vs Western English per se. It's mainstream English vs some far Western and far Northern English counties, that are heavily Insular Celtic (the Celtic fringe). One of the most Insular Celtic parts of England is the North East. My mother is from what could be considered Western England (30 miles from the Welsh border) and has a closer genetic affinity with Dutch than with Irish, even than with Welsh, and that's normal for her county. The neighbouring county to the West is much more Welsh-like though.
