Yes I get a bit irritated with that only because so many do it but they aren't being serious. It's just playing up the stereotype of the Irish not liking the English. I've seen some Scots do it as well.

I know that it's mostly in jest, but I also know that some of it isn't. I have no dog in that fight since I'm a British Isles mutt, and I'm not gonna chase my tail like some rabid sectarian Pit Bull until I start to sound like Old Yeller and they decide to put me to sleep (enough canine barking for one post). Sorry about that. I do these stream of consciousness posts where I type anything that comes to mind in an instantaneous way.

It turns out that I'm much less Anglo-Saxon and much more Celtic than I thought. I traded my fish and chips for corned beef, haggis, shepherd's pie, and whiskey to wash it all down.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was 40% or something like that. I think these companies need to have different reference panels for different parts of England. Southeast English are more similar to parts of Germany. It would be interesting to see if doing that improved the results of people. It is possible because if they used IBD they would definitely be better but I guess Genetic Groups are the way to go but even with using GGs MyHeritage is not always correct either. Ancestry's GCs are quite accurate.

Blame the guilty parties, then. The "please let me have no English blood in my veins" YouTube gene testing clips went from funny to irritating a few years ago. In other words, they would be grossed out if they shared an ethnic link with you (half) and your mom. I may just post on those channels as fully Anglo-Saxon just out of spite, and I'll sing the praises of muh Engrish ("limeys" as my dad called them).

It's not really Eastern English vs Western English per se. It's mainstream English vs some far Western and far Northern English counties, that are heavily Insular Celtic (the Celtic fringe). One of the most Insular Celtic parts of England is the North East. My mother is from what could be considered Western England (30 miles from the Welsh border) and has a closer genetic affinity with Dutch than with Irish, even than with Welsh, and that's normal for her county. The neighbouring county to the West is much more Welsh-like though.

Yeah, in the British Isles it's politically correct to joke about other British Isles nations, but don't dare ever joke about the so-called new British / Irish from around the world.
