The invention of opera

The operatic genre was created 400 years ago by a group of italian intellectuals, musicians and writers called "Camerata Fiorentina" (based in Firenze). Their goal was to recreate ancient dramas, and they did so by creating the first operas in history. Instead of the polyphonic sound, monody appeared. Monody consist in the fact that only one singer sings his part, with considerable musical ornementation in the background.

Jacopo Peri's opera Dafne (1597-1598), is considered as the first opera ever.

Another great example of these early operas is l'Orfeo composed by Claudio Monteverdi, a giant in music history. L'Orfeo was perhaps the first really successful opera.

Un grande orgoglio italiano. Con tante altre cose, non conoscevo la storia, l'ho saputo recentemente. Pensavo che l'opera fosse stato inventato a Napoli o Roma... Due città molto musicali.

i went to the Teatro dell'opera in Rome two times. I saw Tosca and Aida . I was perplexed at the amount of tourists , in fact italians were a minority. Many upper class russians and a few rich Arabs. We should teach more at school to revive the passion for opera.

Unfortunately it's something that's entirely forgotten, even in Italy... Young people listen only to Fedez, italian Trap etc.

Not a fan of Opera myself, but the artform is really old. China has been putting on operas since the 700's-900's A.D and Kabuki is also really old. One can argue that bards and minstrels were early forms of Opera as well. Italians did however shape modern opera, but modern opera isn't 100% original. Not trying to take away from your thread but you should rephrase it.
