I'm not overtly religious, that wasn't the point I was trying to bring across.
I emphasized upon the aspect of the maintenance of community and tradition, which are held by certain teachings of Orthodoxy. I never said I followed or wanted to follow it by the book. But the basic elements must remain.
"Why should I fear death? If I am, death is not. If death is, I am not"

It's a big mistake to think that Muslims live with the Islamic ideals.
Islam forbids dishonesty, cheating, violation of rights.. yet you would see many muslims doing these things, whereas in West for instance, sense of duty and prioritizing the public benefit over personal are more apparent. I've seen countless "pious" Muslims who had very degenerate personalities. And when i say degenerate i mean spitefullness, lying and other terrible traits.
Vast majority of Muslims are uneducated, and as other uneducated people, live with their impulses rather than their morals. Islam for these people are just a tool of power that they can force upon others, most prominently to their women (that's why muslim women uphold islamic values better than muslim men). And for that reason Political Islamists vastly outnumber the Muslims who truly live with the Islamic morals.
Long story short, what differs people is not their religion but their education.

I also wish that Erdogan becomes full authoritarian and forces namus on guys like marmara, amin.
