I think Italy is far from being darkest SE. Spain, Portugal and Greece are darker. Possible also Albania, Bulgaria and Macedonia.

Why, you say so? My answer is based on a recent pigmentation studies. Italy scores darker. It is usually hard for me to tell Meds, one from another. Although I can tell that Italians have more Alpinid and Dinarid elements mixed in with the Med. While Iberians are more of a racially «purer» Mediterranean people. As a whole Southern Euros ( Iberians, Italians, Greeks, Albanians, Bulgarians) are not so different in pigmentation.
