Why didn't Rusyns never got a country?

It's a big tragedy these Carpathian Slavic people never got a country of their own and are now slowly dissapearing by assimilation into Ukrainians, Slovaks, Hungarians, Romanians etc.
Rusyns are eastern Slavs who are mostly Greek-Catholic and genetically distinct from Ukrainians, with their own unique highlander Slavic culture, customs, and language.

They were mostly part of Hungary historically but later most of them ended up in USSR.

Why was there never support to create Carpatho-Ruthenia, a homeland for all Rusyn people? This way they ended up Kurds of Europe, everywhere minority without a home but unlike Kurds their numbers are slowly but surely vanishing. I feel great sympathy for Rusyn people and met some of them in person, especially because they are descendants of White Croats with some Romanian/Vlach admixture.

Why didn't Sorbs create Lusatia for example? Their numbers were historically great, Sorbs today are just remnants of remnants.

Rusyn is an umbrella term, under this word are mentioned all Carpathian Eastern Slavs except Gorals, Moravian Vlachs and Carpathian Slovaks.
