8 killed in shootings at 3 metro Atlanta spas. Police have 1 suspect in custody

Atlanta (CNN)Video evidence suggests "it is extremely likely" that the same person was responsible for the three deadly shootings at massage parlors in the metro Atlanta area, police said Tuesday.

Eight people were killed and one person was wounded in the attacks. Two of the shootings were at spas across the street from each other in northeast Atlanta and the other happened about 30 miles away in Cherokee County to the northwest of the city.

Eight people, many of them women of Asian descent, have been killed in shootings at spas in the US state of Georgia.

Police said the shootings took place at a massage parlour in Acworth, a suburb north of Atlanta, and two spas in the city itself.

South Korea later confirmed that four of the victims were of Korean descent.

Officials said a 21-year-old man had been arrested and was believed to be the suspect in all of the attacks.

No motive has yet been established.

However, hate crimes against Asian-Americans have spiked in recent months, fuelled by rhetoric that blames them for the spread of Covid-19.

In an address last week, President Joe Biden condemned "vicious hate crimes against Asian-Americans who have been attacked, harassed, blamed and scapegoated."

Almost certainly, yes. But the only reason we're hearing about this case is because the culprit is a White male. (It seems as if hate crimes against East Asians are typically carried out by Blacks.)

Blacks have been assaulting Asian-Americans quite frequently in America and then this comes out of nowhere. Though people hate China, most 'far-right' groups in America focus on Jews, Blacks, and Muslims. Even if he had a burning hatred for the Chinese, killing a bunch of Korean women in massage parlours doesn't really harm them. Something is really odd about this.

Too many Asian-Americans were talking about how race crimes against them by African-Americans wasn't reported by media, now they will be reported but with this one front and center to try and convince people that the majority of the attacks were committed by whites.

Armed citizens were credited with limiting fatalities in a shooting in Louisiana on Saturday that left three people dead, including the suspect, according to authorities.

The outburst, at a gun store and range just down the road from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, also left two people wounded, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

His motive apparently was that Asian massage parlors tempted him to sin.

ATLANTA (AP) — A white man accused of killing eight people, most of whom were of Asian descent, at massage parlors in the Atlanta area told police the attack was not racially motivated and that he potentially had a “sex addiction,” officials said Wednesday.

Still, authorities said they were investigating whether the deaths were hate crimes amid concerns over a wave of attacks on Asian Americans. Six of the victims were identified as Asian and seven were women.
