Keeping up a friendship

How involved are you in your friendships? How hard is it for you to keep up friendships? What do you do in order to maintain a friendship? How often do you get irritated by your friends? How often do you tangle with your friends?

As far as my childhood friends, 3 come to mind - and I am quite sure that we will remain close friends for the rest of our lives.

That said, we don't communicate much, I only see them a few times a year each, nowadays. So while none of us puts much effort into frequent communication, when we get back together it is like old times, the magic comes right back. And the laughs. I'm very grateful.

Those that I can consider true friends have been my friends since childhood. I have fingers left on one hand for those who fall into that category.

Although I do not have continuous contact with some of them, when we meet again it is as if we have never lost contact.

I have many acquaintances but few legitimate friends (maybe seven or eight - ish), if you are my friend we are like family. My close friends are professional musicians so naturally we meet up quite often to jam and whatnot, however, we all live within a 16km radius of each other so this is easily arranged.

Few people in your life will be like that.

About the question, i generally meet with my friends in the weekends when they are not busy with something like job or studies.

I have a bunch of acquantainces (some would say we're friends, but I don't see it that way), the ones I'd call friends are the ones I know I can always count on them for anything (and vice-versa, of course), they're few.

How hard is it for you to keep up friendships?

I'm not very talkative, but I can talk for hours with my closest friends. Sometimes I don't show up when they expect me to be somewhere, but they're used to this.

What do you do in order to maintain a friendship?

Mantain? Sometimes I do the opposite, there's this friend who is living in another country, her career is better than ever there, so I'm trying my best not to get emotionally too close again. God knows how much I'm supressing some things.

She finally found her Pasárgada (the place in the poem by Manuel Bandeira, her favorite), I'm not gonna risk ruining her happiness. On a personal level, I don't believe in LDRs, so I'm not going to feed her false promises. I had my chance when she was still living here, and I blew it.

How often do you get irritated by your friends?

After the political polarization of Brazil, often. All I can say is that they're not my friends anymore j/k

Most people do not have real friends but superficial acquaintances based on exchanges of drinks or dinners etc...

Real friendships are formed during things like political activism or military combat etc...

I’ve always had a small group of very close friends. Now that I moved to another state I don’t get to spend time with them often, but I will check in with them from time to time to let them know I’m thinking of them and they do the same with me. We all understand that we’re adults and living busy lives so I don’t really have any issues with drifting from them.

I never get irritated by my friends unless they are doing some kind of harmful behavior toward themselves. At that point I advise them to do better for themselves. But we never fight.

How involved are you in your friendships?

I witnessed my friends slowly turning into degenerates. It was one of the most painful decisions I've ever made, but I eventually moved away from them. To answer the question, I am very involved in my friendships. Always finding some time to help my friends when they need me.

How hard is it for you to keep up friendships?

Today? Very hard. People became superficial as hell. They run away the moment shit hits the fan.

What do you do in order to maintain a friendship?

In general, it happens naturally. I show them I care about their well-being and I will be there when they need me the most.

How often do you get irritated by your friends?

Rarely.

How often do you tangle with your friends?

We used to hang out in the weekend when most of us were off work.
