Ghent Altarpiece: ‘most stolen’ artwork gets €30m glass case

One of the world’s best masterpieces, and certainly essentially the most stolen piece of artwork of all time, Hubert and Jan van Eyck’s Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, also referred to as the Ghent Altarpiece, has a brand new €30m (£26m) glass-case dwelling.

Whereas remaining inside St Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent, Belgium, for which it was painted in 1432 by the Van Eyck brothers, the 12-panelled polyptych will likely be positioned within the Sacrament chapel, the cathedral’s largest and most easterly chapel, inside a bullet-proof show case measuring 6-metres excessive by 100 metres.
