Japan's post-war economic recovery was carefully supervised and aided by the West (USA). Of course the characteristic Japanese ethics and spirit of sacrifice for their nation also played an important role but the influence of the West cannot be ruled out.

Reagarding all East Asia and SE Asia (except Phillippines and maybe Hong Kong), Japan is the most westernized country at all.

Very true, Japanese Modernization ended in the 1930's, they were not a truly modern society by the end of WW2 and had outdated technology, in fact the Germans tried to help them modernize in the 1940s but were unsuccessful as they could only reach Japan via U-Boat. The Japanese system was full of monopolies and outdated processes, they helped Japan in the beginning but post imperialism they had no use and only held Japan back. Not to mention, Europeans really were the driving force in Japans initial modernization namely the British who brought rail technology to the country and aided in building their national railway systems.

Technology exchanges.
They are East Asian higher iq.
Proximity to China and Korea. Through conquest and exploration you get "better".
Europe became strong by fighting with itself (tribes vs tribes, countries vs countries), I think the Japs also had tribal/warlord wars and their imperial lands.

That makes sense hence why they're part of the G7. I watched the briefing by their prime minister back in May last year when they were obviously "forced" to impose a state of emergency but the part that made me question it all was when he said they will have to approve a 117 trillion yen stimulus package...It was like he had a gun on his back.

Japanese were advanced before western influence. Portuguese explorers noted this. In fact, the Japanese referred to the Portuguese as barbarians

In the 19th century, the royal family insisted on modernising and industrialising Japan precisely to stop it from being conquered by the West so it could compete and defend itself.

And even attack the Russian empire.
