Clooney and Depp are NW Euromutts not English, like most Yanks - and they're atypical, but they're not that atypical. I've never doubted their stated ancestry, unlike some others. The Star Wars guy is very hard to believe, especially after seeing his supposed father.

Well they are both from the South, so they are almost bound to be majority British tbh.

On a related note I've noticed from collecting gedmatch kits that British descended Southerners are noticeably a little more Southern shifted genetically than British/English in the UK on average. Not sure exactly why. Possibly that little bit of Huguenot/South German/other stuff present in Colonial times + some people having Black/Indian blood. I've heard tales about Norman aristocratic descent being a part of the South also but I doubt that has much to do with it.

Yeah, if that's a consistent thing, that's probably it. I have found continental European ancestry to be almost universal in colonial Americans if you go back far enough. New Englanders are less likely to have it, as some of the celebrity examples you posted above show (Ball, Hepburn, Davis).
