Why are English Americans darker than English people?

Elvis has some gypsy ancestry and I thought Jonny Depp was part Amerindian, cherry picked examples don't prove anything

In America they had to adapt to the climate much more sunny than that of Britain, one that favours darker pigmentation. There aren't so many generations though.

But Tooting, I agree that there are some incredibly preserved Nordic Anglos in N. America, in high number.
