The Uruguayan population was 223.230 in 1860, then after the European immigration wave the population was 1.042.686 in 1908. That’s like 3 out of 4 uruguayans were European newcomers.

Regarding the 223.230 uruguayans already living in the country before the immigration; they were mostly Spanish with some native, but not that much. Uruguay lands didnt have many natives to start with. Then, a consistent removal of the natives from the hand of the Spanish settlers and descendants happened with its end in 1831, when the last 4 Charruas were sent to France.

The current native blood in the uruguayan population is the one deluted from the colonial times when the Spanish mixed with the natives, so it’s quite ancient (in American context) and its diluted homogenously in the entire population.

Blacks came from Brazil escaping from slavery, as Uruguay had already abolished slavery.

So... would you say that the colonial Uruguayan imput was mainly in the Criollo/Castizo range?
