It's bizarre and disconcerting, to be sure. I am as traditional as they come in my social/political views, but yet I have nothing meaningful in common with Moslems. I would sooner die with my own people than ally myself with such a foreign (and false, if Teutone is actually Catholic) religion and a people I have no blood connection with whatsoever. That's like denying your own family because their hobbies are different than yours and going to live with some other family.

Then, is that how you see the main divide in the world? And then further, does that put you personally on the side of fundamentalist Moslems (and fundamentalist Christians, if we are to perceive them as being on the same side) as fellow appreciators of tradition, authenticity and the holistic?

Like I said, I am agnostic and have some libertarian tendencies, so not really. However, I am also increasingly green-leaning and romantic-leaning, and I can appreciate that traditional and religious people may be closer to some aspects of my outlook than radical modernists are.

I've evolved my politics too - not racist, just don't like 'em.

Okay. I just don't see that as anywhere close to being the most important division between human beings. It almost strikes me as a mere personality difference. After all, there are a lot of practicing Moslems who would love the freedom of the West, knowingly or unknowingly, and a lot of loose Westerners who would thrive under a revival of traditional Christianity.
