I think one advantage might be that Russian has virtually no dialect at all and is the most commonly spoken Slavic language (many sources). People often told me that French is one of the most standardised cultures in language. Nonsense. Russian is that and way more, but I assume there are many layers of sociolect still.
Not that I'm an expert, but I'm not blind when I see Russians tending to write their language very properly.
