    By the time of Julius Caesar the remaining PIE genes were probably still somewhat evident in the higher and lesser nobility of Rome, but judging by the statuary, I'd say no more than 40% and often less, PIEs having entered Italy with fewer numbers than they left above the Alps, to be met by long settled large families, and of course the Etruscans were not far off. After, say, 200ad, people from the nearby empire had settled in considerable numbers in Rome and south of it, but were mostly fellow Meds, so the difference is not very apparent to the eye.

    AFAIK Romans had a more Southern genetic profile because the Italian Peninsula was invaded afterwards with Germanic tribes, that shifted North the average Italian people

    Republican roman was western european, estrucan-like, and this native imput is find mostly in North Italy.
