Maramures Romanians seem to be the group halfway between the two. Ukrainian Carpathian is the closest Ukrainian group to Romanians ("Vlach" Admixture? Hutsuls?).

I beg to disagree. 'Cossack' is a very distinct term and they are noticeably different genetically than Russians.

Moldavians are a distinct ethnic group from Romanians (Wallachians) with a different ethnogenesis and separate state, these diferences are visible genetically/features, language and especially mentality.

The answer to the OP question is: in-between, but somewhat closer to Greeks.

However, certain Ukrainian groups used to overlap completely with the Romanian groups next to them. This is not the case so much, after massive deportations and population displacement in the wake of ww2 and subsequent Soviet policies.
