26 April is ANZAC day for us antipodeans i.e. Aussies and Kiwis. Being in WA we get a holiday on Monday even though ANZAC Day falls on the Sunday. In the past all Australian states used to get a Public Holiday if ANZAC Day fell on a Saturday or Sunday but this is not the case anymore with some states not getting the Public Holiday. Australia is a Federation so we aren't all uniform. Anyway we have a rare lockdown here for 3 days in WA (hopefully not more) due to Covid. On ANZAC Day people gather in certain areas for dawn service to honour the brave men and women who lost their lives through defending Australia but here in WA that won't happen because of Covid and the 3 day lockdown.

Anyway I've always had a soft spot for Ataturk with his proclamation below.
A great movie to watch at this time is Gallipoli. Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
