Yes, it looks like house geckos won't be able to survive if its higher than 1600 meters. I would bet 100% that there are no house geckos in Rancho Redondo as it is higher than 2000 meters. What's the coldest and highest town in Costa Rica? Looks like you also don't need a fan or an A/C when you are in San Jose or other highland towns for most of the year?

Im convinced that house geckos would haver a very hard time adapting to a terrain higher than 1600 meters because when I was traveling in Ethiopia (mostly Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Gondar and Lake Tana, didn't went to Lalibela, Aksum, Harar, Mekelle, Danakil Afar Desert, Omo Valley unfortunately) within a month with my friend, I think I have seen a house gecko only once and it was very high on the ceiling outside a building. I was surprised by how rare house geckos were since Ethiopia is located in the tropics and very close to the equator, I expected them to be abundant. But when I got there, I hardly seen any and I believe it is due to the fact that Ethiopia is mostly highlands between 1600 meters to 2500 meters or more, which makes its very difficult for house geckos to survive due to the much cooler, drier and lower oxygen concentration which also means much less insects which are the primary food source for geckos.

Well... I think the driest area of Chaco region (not the province, the Chaco Region include Part of eastern Bolivia, western and northern Paraguay and many argentine provinces like Formosa, Chaco, Santiago del Estero, eastern-Salta and northern Sante Fe, also extreme north / northeast of Còrdoba) is properly Santiago del Estero province, where it rains between 600 to 800 mm, but in the summer the area recives a good amount of rain, the problem is just the regime, extremely concentrated in three/five years of the year, for that reason in winter it gives an impression of a steppe/scrub/very dry savanna area.

Clorinda is lower than Tartagal... probably Clorinda is located 80 / 100 mts over the sea, so, practically the same as the level of the sea, while Tartagal is located 450/500 mts.
Clorinda is a bit warmer during the whole year and it usually rains quite more, around +-1400 / 1600 mm.

About Costa Rica, the coldest town is called Cartago, but the weather is very mild there, during the year the average is 19ºC, so... it's a temperate / subtropical climate (typical tropical highlands climate), Cartago is located 1450mts over the sea more or less, Around 250/300 mts more than San José the capital.
And the warmest city/capital province town is called Liberia, the same as the african country. It's located in the north-western side of the country around 150/170 mts over the sea. It recives around 1700 mm rains over the year (which is a very good amount, but quite low by centralamerican standards)...

Now, I feel really surprised because I found an article where it says that there are two geckos species in Buenos Aires!!

They would have too many natural predators to survive here, including people. Middle aged Balkan men will find one reason or another to make hunting them a sport.

Sometimes it can give off that impression, though, especially during the dry season. We get 500mm of rain a year on average at the airport station, it could be a bit more depending on the area.

Geckos can't stand the cold weather and high altitude either. I studied in the US (Ohio) for four years and I never seen any house gecko there as it is too cold and temperate for them to live. This include most other places in the USA.

Do you have a desert in your country? I saw some map on precipitation worldwide and Colombia seems to be the top three wettest countries in the world. I think it is due to the Pacific Coast with cities like Quibdo, Lopez de Micay being rainy all year long with very heavy rains.

Geckos (African) and lizards I find it in my region in the south of Brazil on 1000m with subtropical climate (average 15°C winter and 27°C summer) with a cold front coming from Antarctica the temperature drops can drop to -5 °C on the coldest day.

I don't live in Morocco, but you can find lots of different lizards in rural areas there, since the houses are not really sealed.
