Gyspsy kidnap kids, a reality?

My question is trully serious. I heard many stuffs about gypsys that I took for myths or widely exagerate. Well don't take me for a naive, I know most of them live from welfare or illegal activity.
But I didn't beleive that they really kidnap childrens.

Recently I fall on some people telling anectodes about it. So I trully asm myself, is it for real?

This was a way to keep children well-behaved. Other ways were telling that "nixie (water troll) comes and takes". Later the nixie was replaced by police .

I'm sure they don't because there are 20 million gypsies and as a people they don't but there are many different gypsy clans and families but it is not different than claiming French rape children

Media like to show shocking things, done by certain ethnicity, if they show you how good some gipsy behave, who would read the newspaper or watch the infos?
