Default In sharp contrast to England, the Labour Party INCREASES its votes and seats in Wales

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-57031725

Labour has held on to power after winning half of the available seats in the Welsh Parliament election.

The party won 30 of the 60 available seats, beating the Conservatives, with 16, Plaid Cymru on 13 and the Liberal Democrats, one.

Labour has been in power in Wales, either in coalition or as a minority, for the past 22 years.

Mark Drakeford, the party leader, has said the next Welsh government would be "radical" and "ambitious".

Labour did fall one seat short of the 31 needed for an outright majority, but this is a feat no party has ever achieved in the history of the Welsh Parliament.

Fifty-two of the 60 Senedd seats were declared on Friday, with two final regional lists giving results on Saturday.

Both the South Wales East and South Wales Central constituencies returned two Welsh Conservative and two Plaid Cymru MSs.

In South Wales East, Delyth Jewell and Peredur Owen Griffiths were elected for Plaid, while Laura Anne Jones and Natasha Asghar will represent the region for the Welsh Conservatives.

In South Wales Central, the leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, was one of the two Tories elected, along with Joel James.

Rhys ab Owen and Heledd Fychan will represent Plaid Cymru in the region.

I don't really have strong opinions either way, except that their status as tax havens should be revoked (same applies for the Cayman Islands, Virgin Islands and Bermuda too).

Who cares? the change was minimal. Yes, the vote didn't collapse, but Jesus, why is the vote collapsing elsewhere?

All that happened is that UKIP lost all its seats because it's become an irrelevant party in the past 5 years. The Tories picked up most of them.

    Tories +5, Labour +1, Y Plaid +1.

    Big win, Labour /s.

    Plaid won my constituency.

You know that we don't necessarily have the power to do that in Jersey, Guernsey or Man. They're Crown Dependencies, they don't actually answer to Westminster.

Although many Welsh voters in the South and Northeast of the country have a general outlook not much different from their counterparts in most of Northern and Central England, there is still the lingering feeling that the Tories are really an upper/middle-class English Party, which means that they will never do that well even if Welsh voters may have no more affinity to the dominant agenda and beliefs in the London Labour Party than the latter do.

Welsh Labour benefitted from the recent success with covid cases/vaccine etc. Just as the Tories did in England and the Snp in Scotland. All governing parties benefitted from this election.

Working class aren't voting Labour because Labour aren't representing the working class.

Obviously neither are the Tories but that's not the issue.
