Yes, but this east-west thing is also not really correct, for example Spain and Sweden belong to West division but there is a world difference between them. I think the european regional divisions are: South Europe, West Europe, North Europe, Baltic States, East Europe, Central Europe and Balkans. The countries in these divisions are pretty similar, for example Serbia is similar to Bosnia, Bulgaria or Ukraine is similar to Russia, or Hungary is similar to Slovakia, or Norway is similar to Sweden etc, these are geographical and cultural regions at same time.

I agree if you break it down in detail. But if I were to do a simple two way division of Europe it would be east vs west not north vs south. Obviously if broken down properly you’d need more regions.

I think Europe needs more than two divisions anyway. But it’s clear to me for example that Bulgarians and Russians are much closer than a Russian is to an Irishman or Brit., and I doubt Bulgarians and say Iberians feel much commonality.

In climate it would be different for example. But even then it’s more complex.

I actually don't believe in regional groupings anymore. Every country is closest to it's neighbours and that should be enough.
For example, Moldova is eastern European country but it's much closer to Romania (which would be southeastern in such division) than to Estonia or Belarus.

Groupings are dumb, every person sees it differently.

Poland is much more like Ukraine than like Switzerland and still it's obvious it shouldn't be in same group with Ukraine.
So yeah, totally unnecessary divisions.

In terms of Eastern Europe I'd agree, as most of them are Slavic, but Southern and NW Europeans are chalk and cheese, apples and oranges, oil and water....
