Ironically, the British are stereotyped as being a lot more formal and stuffy than is really the case, when in truth Colombian culture (especially the business world) is far more formal than here - the way people dress; the constant addressing of others as 'senor', 'senora', 'doctor', 'doctora'.

In my opinion the ones that deserve such title the most is Chile and Colombia. Generally speaking they are the closest, in culture and genetics, to south europeans (where latin language emerged).

People of the Southern Cone are not more serious and introverted than Andean people like western bolivians or Andean peruvians. Never.
Andean folks are very jelous of their own culture and they don't share it with anybody.

I suppose "Latin American" in a stereotypical sense would be Colombia, Mexico, DR, and Venezuela, etc....

Bolivia and Peru are too indigenous methinks. Paraguay is a mystery nation which eludes me....I've never met anyone from there and they don't seem to have much (if any) cultural soft power. Chileans are also a group that I don't have much first hand experience with, and I don't know much about them aside from some geopolitical and history related things, but in my head they are culturally more similar to other Southern Cone nations so not very stereotypically "Latino"?

When you say latin american, Mexico comes to mind, but that's the english language playing the fiddles in my brain. IRL I don't use this term, so I'd have no answer aside the "american/english language" sphere.

Average American Joe also doesn't know shit about these countries listed. They can't say the difference between Chile and China, let alone Bolivia, Peru... It's Mexico all the ways.

They don't even know exist other countries apart to México and Brazil.
May be they know exist Cuba and Dominican Republic because they have immigrants from those countries living there, and Puerto Rico because it's not exactly a country but a free associated State to the US but not many more...
