Default Which airport do you find to be the most useful overall: Heathrow or New York-JFK?

Heathrow has more connections to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

JFK has more connections across the Americas (from Canada to Argentina with almost everywhere in between).

Both are about the same in terms of connections to East Asia and Oceania.

My favourite destination is Istanbul because it’s the only airport that can take me to Libya, and Turkish Airlines is a great flight experience as well

Yes, Turkish Airlines in fact flies to more countries than any other airline.

Heathrow, because JFK has some serious competition with Newark NJ.

Heathrow does with Gatwick and to an extent Stansted too.

Gatwick has some intercontinental flights, but much less than Newark.

Gatwick is much more leisure focused with the likes of EasyJet, Tui dominating. Even BA mostly serves seasonal holidays destinations from LGW.

Stansted would be a minor airport without Ryanair which is at the other end of the market spectrum to full-service flag carriers at LHR.

For a global traveler, Heathrow beats JFK merely by the fact it has a far superior geographic location to access the world's major population centers.

The only reason you would pick JFK over LHR would be if you are doing the bulk of your travelling within the Americas.

    Better comparisons would be:

    JFK v LAX
    LHR v CDG
    AMS v FRA
    IST v DXB

    Yeah I suppose you're right.
