According to a poll from 2011, majority of Jamaicans believed their country would've been better off had it remained under British rule:
From this article : https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2..._suggests.htmlThe survey, conducted for the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper by Johnson Survey Research, found that 60 per cent of Jamaicans think the country would be better off today if it was still under British rule. A mere 17 per cent said they believed the country would be worse off. The remaining 23 per cent of respondents said they didn’t know.
I also found this on wikipedia:
When Jamaica gained independence in 1962, the murder rate was 3.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, one of the lowest in the world.[157] By 2009, the rate was 62 per 100,000 inhabitants, one of the highest in the world.[158]
