What does the word "paleto" mean? What are the elements of "Spanish paleto culture"?

Nowadays this image would be more difficult to see, so that redneck would cover a broader spectrum in essence and could be applied to someone from the city and even about someone prepared who by his deeds or words had proved otherwise.

Pablo Iglesias makes a fool of himself in Moncloa by posing as a real "paleto".

According to oral family tradition E-FT155550 comes from a deserter of Napoleon's troops (1808-1813) who stayed in Spain and changed his surname.

Thanks. If I understand, it is similar to Redneck or Hillbilly culture in US? What are elements of this culture? Bullfighting, flamenco, siesta or something else? Is it something specific Castilian or exists in all parts of Spain? Why it should be preserved? Is it endangered by modernization, emancipation, liberalization etc?

It is understood for the whole of Spain, paleto, cateto; although personally I see it as very Castilian.

No, no, paleto is not related to bullfighting, siesta, flamenco, which would be considered culture, and also the most exported and besides, the most important bullrings are in the cities.

There are still some in rural areas and more and more in the cities. Now they are more sophisticated and there are many degrees and specialisations, I don't think they will disappear.

    One historical question:
Why did Spain lose almost all wars and colonies in Latin America in 19 century? It is obvious that US was stronger and I can understand losses of Cuba, Philippines and Puerto Rico, but were those independence movements in Central and South America so strong? Was Spain interested to keep this lands?

Happened just after the war against Napoleon. The metropoli was weak at these moments precisely because the war, and criollos, supported by masonry, took advantage of this. As curiosity, people should know maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany Indians, blacks, mestizos, mulatos, etc, supported Spain.
