What is your opinion on Speaking in Tongues?

Is it a real phenomenon as mentioned in the Bible, or are people just faking it?

Its a real phenomenon of course. I think I spoke in tongues, but Im not sure, because I didnt spoke all of a sudden tongues I never learned, like aramaic but I was inspired to preach the Gospel and I did so in switching languages I know, in Serbian, German, English. The Bible says "they spoke in foreign tongues" when I speak 3 tongues and a bit Italian I did too, I learned a bit italian and spoke for a while in Italian, I think I spoke in foreign tongues.

It's a common form of mass hysteria, very similar to the teenage girl reactions in the time of Beatlemania. Kinda sad though to witness this in full grownups.

I'm a WELS Lutheran, and we're cessationists. I think there was a time for it in the early New Testament period, but it isn't applicable today. Having seen some weird phenomena in previous Charismatic-type churches before, I see no evidence that any of it now is actually from the Spirit. Seems like most of what people think "speaking in tongues" is now is just people getting excitable, spontaneous, and strange.

The Biblical understanding of Speaking in tongues is to speak a language other than your native language. It was a gift of the Holy Spirit meant to assist the disciples in spreading the gospel to non-Aramaic speaking people.
