Default Grimfrost Academy - Viking Religion

Grimfrost Academy is a documentary series with the purpose of education and maintaining a historical record. The episodes feature world-leading Viking Age experts sharing knowledge that could otherwise be difficult, or even impossible to come by. The second episode features Professor Neil Price of Uppsala University in Sweden. He explains Viking Age religion, worldview and magic. He also goes through the importance of ancestors and the invisible population surrounding the people of the time and age.Funding and producing the series is a way for Grimfrost to pay our respects to those who came before us, to counter misconceptions regarding the time period and to thank all our supporters interested in the Viking Age.

Not that bad, informative enough from an archaeological point of view.

Various points for modernists to understand that paganism was dynamic with various stupid notions.

The part that I found most interesting was when the researchers were skeptical about the existence of the temple described by Adam von Bremen. They believe that the place were the idols were erected was actually the longhouse of the jarl.
This makes sense from the perspective of a pre-urban society, public temples tend to be a creation of urban life, of centralized states with a political affiliation based on citizenship rather than blood bonds.
In ancient Micene temples were confined to the palatial citadel, Only the nobility had access to them and were allowed to perform the sacred rites.
In a similar manner in the tribal context of late iron age scandinavia, the perform of a more oficial religion will be the privilege of the nobility only.
