These data seem to indicate that Italians are overwhelmingly more different in appearance to almost all Europeans, obviously excluding Iberians, Greeks and southern Albanians, than to Maghrebi and Levantines. Italians have a skin color more in line with North Africans than Slovenians, or at least equidistant. Italians differ in the frequency of light hair from Slovenes in practically the same degree as North Africans and Middle Easterners. Same goes for clear eyes. Slovenians are one of the non-South European nations with the most overlap in these maps, so the gap with the vast majority of other Europeans is greater. So, although there is individual variation, Italians in general do not look like North African / Middle Eastern Levantines or non-Southern Europeans, they simply look like Italians in their area, but these data indicate that we are almost always in general equidistant between other Europeans and non-Europeans or well closer to Middle Eastern Levantines and North Africans than to the vast majority of Europeans, so I would model the average Southern Italian as 75-80% North African and Middle Eastern near the Mediterranean and 20-25% non-Mediterranean Europeans, while the respective percentages for the center Italy are 70% and 30% in general, Northern Italy below the river Po 60% and 40% while Northern Italy above the river then 40% and 60% in general. These are only ideal percentages of course, the Italians are South Europeans, stop, but if one were forced to choose to model, obviously I am not talking about Saudi Arabia or southern Morocco, but rather the areas close enough to the Mediterranean. Color of eyes, skin and hair, as well as bone structure, is more similar to those people than to other Europeans, but of course there is individual variation. For some things there is more overlap, for example with Bosnians than with non-Europeans, but on the whole the sum of the color of eyes, hair, skin + phenotype seems to say this. We have a Mediterranean aspect, not only European.
