In Lundman's concept of geographical races, a race is called the Volgid (Wyatkid) race. It belongs to the Caspian Southeast racial group.
Characteristics:
- low growth
- stocky body build
- head long to medium (main index x-82)
- high skull (76-x)
- face fairly wide, with protruding cheekbones, protomorphic (with primitive features)
- nose small, wide, upturned
- more or less oblique eye gap
- dark eye and hair pigmentation
- a large percentage of blood group B
Comments:
A very protomorphic (primitive) race. The earliest separated from the trunk of the eastern Cro-Magnids (Brunnids). According to Lundman, it belongs to the white race, despite some features indicating a Mongoloid admixture (eye frame). It is like the eastern counterpart of the Paleo-Atlantic race in the _Tydal_ variant. It also displays affinity to Ainuids.
Lundman originally referred to the type as Wyatkid, then Volgid.
Occurrence:
The area of concentration is the central Volga region (mainly local Finnish peoples), but it is dispersed in the forested areas of Siberia as far as Altai. Before the war, the features of this breed were rare in the German population of the border between Germany and the Czech Republic (mainly the Sudetes) - the Sudeten Race.

Vi gå nu österut till Ryssland. Detta väldiga slättland täcks som bekant i norra hälften av skogar, i den södra av stepper. Den geografiska motsatsen innebär även en raslig, mellan mer eller mindre blonda, undersätsiga skogsbor och steppfolk med smärtare växt, ävensom mörkare till hy, hår och ögon. - I norr ha vi nämligen framför allt östbaltiska typer ungefär av savolaxtyp, ävensom blandmed eller kanske rättare övergångstyper till diverse mörkare raser. Längst i öster s. a. s. förtätas dessa senare till en egendomlig undersätsig typ, wjatkiner, med höga och rätt långa huvuden, helt olika de omgivande mongolernas låga, platta hjässor - och ändå ha wjatkinerna i regel sneda ögon! I huvudsak är dock typen ej mongolid, men liknar däremot vissa asiatiska urstammar (ainos o. s. v., se framdeles).
Translation:
We are now going east to Russia. As is known, this vast plain is covered in the northern half with forests and in the south with steppes. The geographical opposite also implies a racial, between more or less blonde, submissive forest dwellers and steppe people with more painful growth, as well as darker to skin, hair and eyes. - In the north namely, we have mainly Eastern Baltic types roughly of Savolaxid type, as well as mixed with or perhaps more correct transition types to various darker breeds. Farthest to the east so to say these are densified later to a peculiar submissive type, Wjatkid, with high and rather long heads, quite different from those of the low and flat heads of the surrounding Mongoloids - and still the Wjatkids usually have oblique eyes! In essence, however, the type is not Mongoloid, but is similar to against certain Asian tribes (Ainus, etc., see below).
