Sinful for man to force wife into workforce — Thoughts?

According to Islamic laws, a man can not pressuring his wife to join the workforce as this is a sin. In the video below, the Islamic scholar is saying that many women email him complaining that their hubby are telling him to join the workforce (particularly men from the new generation) . This has caused them difficulty to balance caring for the kids. He claims that it is the man’s job to pay for the family’s groceries, clothes, shelter and etc. This is because women are the primary nurturers of children (this even happens in western countries). However, if a woman does wanna work, then it’s a different story. Then she can tell her hubby she wants to participate in helping with the bills.

What do you guys think about this? Keep in mind, this was also the case in the western world less than 100 years ago.


This is does not only apply to Islam. I live in New York City (with one of the largest conservative Jewish community in the world). When I walk down a Jewish neighborhood, I see people following gender roles in of the Torah laws.

Women are allowed to work only when the constraints of society mean it is financially unviable for a large proportion of women to be a stay at home mother.

It only benefits a society where the minimum wage a man can earn will not be able to provide for at least two children.

As the west saw when we allowed women into the workplace, men cannot provide enough money for women on their now reduced wages which was a direct result of the increased number of workers as women entered the field of employment.

On the other hand, Muslim women should not be allowed to work. Muslims should form their own ethnic enclaves in the west and take care of their financial issues.

Take Turkey for instance where Erdogan said "it is a Muslim's duty to have as many children as possible and not to use birth control". This is possible because whilst women in Muslim majority countries generally do not have the right to employment as men, the wages of men are increased to compensate for the loss of a working individual.

And the spread of home duties is much more easily dealt with as there is no overlap. Men deal with the money and finances and women deal with matters of the home.

If you are talking about Hasidic communities in New York, their clothing styles go back to the 1700's, kitchen covered in aluminum foil because of their stupid kosher laws (ever heard of fleischen und milchen in Jewish law?), men are not supposed to have gainful employment, but study in yeshiva all day, they rely upon donations, women have to wear a wig when going outside, silly fur hats, etc.

Almost like they had a contest to see who could come up with the most retarded dietary/mannerism/clothing/appearance laws.

It's not coincidence this is happening in New York and New Jersey, where the Hasidim are actively engaged in this dirty, underhanded practices.
