Default Greeece's problems can be traced back to the 70s (late 70s)

Just found out an article from an Irish newspaper that is a few years old, but is worth reading it, as it highlights the real problems, and of course, the situation in which Greece was before the 1980s.

Greece has all the tools to be successful, besides a bad case of geography in the economical sense as of what we know now. Greece has always followed the foot steps of larger European nations, its like the one friend who can't compete with your super successful cousin (I mean that with no disrespect) but just not ready to be there yet. Greece needs to re-structure itself, push itself away from the Western ideological flow and follow in the steps of the United States in your free society capitalist view and allow easier outside investments without their entire market being out sourced and the country will flourish. Only time will tell what is going to happen. I am curious to see how Chinese investments in Piraeus and with the possible Turkish canal being built in the bosphorus strait will handle the situation in the Mediterranean with Greece having the worlds most ships, if the investments will help and to see how ties with Turkey will go in an economic unity for further progression.

Deep seated problems goes back to the 30s.

Greece done well in the 70s as an insulated economy actually.... no one to trade with but Greece as an insulated economy trading within itself (as wouldnt trade with Turkey and couldnt trade with commies) did well.

Greece has very little proper trading partners due to its geographic position. Thats why Constantinople and Smyrna was so important as it opened new markets but didnt get there.
